1 July 2014 - "Rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated!"

  1. I'd like to compare my "noisy" Noiseless (number 11?) Remington with your 10, sometime. I still can't figure out what differences make one the "noisy" version. Be sure to post pics of that Remington as you go or when you get done.

  2. DuffyMoon! You bet, sir. The "Noiseless 10" is operational, so we could compare them any time.
I am really bad at documenting the progress on various machines ... usually I am 2-4 hours into a cleaning when I think of taking "before" pictures. :-)
It's such an incredibly complex machine - I am hesitant to dig much deeper than the superficial layers.
The "grasshopper leg" mechanism of the Noiseless design, is wild. The throw of the type slugs is only about 3 inches (a SWAG off the top of my head). It hits the paper so lightly that it doesn't even seem to be contacting the paper, but it is imprinting. It needs spools that I don't have, so we've yet to get a real sample. I am tempted to try the carbon paper trick.
I will keep a running project update with her ... maybe I should do that in the "pages" feature of the blog - and just add project pages for each machine that is of interested. Hmmm.
Hope to see you around soon. :-)

  3. (rifling through my spool inventory...) I may be able to help with that spool problem. I'll check on it.

  4. sounds like both you and your son have many hobbies and activities. I think that's actually a good thing bc if it were just typewriters, well, that can be maddening.
