May 13, 2014 - **The Eagle Has Landed**

  1. I did receive a DHL notification on Sunday and was holding my breath a little: "Notification for shipment event group 'Clearance delay' for 11 May 14... EVENT CATEGORY 11 May 14 5:13 PM - Customs status updated - BRISBANE,AUSTRALIA".

Congratulations on a well-orchestrated effort, Brian! Incidentally, I did wear the wonderful "Yes, I WILL fix your typewriter!" tee shirt to a social event recently, and as soon as I walked into the door, someone whom I didn't really know approached me and told me a story about how his great-grandfather (or maybe his grandfather) used to be a shipper who worked for L. C. Smith and that his family may still have some of Mr. Smith's personal effects, including his cane.

The ripples of what you've done here do seem to be traveling out towards the edges of the earth!

    1. Dan - that's an awesome story. Thanks to YOU - you folks made this happen, I am just the monkey in the middle, flipping some switches. :-)
I have to say, the shirt idea was inspired. I get comments and spark up conversations every time I wear it. I had to order business cards and carry them with me, because invariably that is one of the questions I get - "Do you have a card?" :-)
I hope it serves you well!!
It has also been great to meet folks such as yourself, and see what kind hearted folks are out there.
Cheers, Dan! Hopefully we'll cross paths some time, and we can lift a pint to John. :-) (same to you, Ted - thank YOU!)

    1. Yessir! John says that he has a couple blog posts (for "McTaggart's Typewriter Workshop") written out already in long-hand, and is getting ready to do a post on the "little brother" of the Editor series, the Olivetti 48. He thinks that he's going to shoe-horn the Editor 2 into that post. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. :-)

  3. Yeah, the re-packing seems to happen a bit. We have very strict rules here in Australia for quarantine, and they don't like stuff that my have been in contact with organics. A got set a couple of typewriters from Germany recently, both of which were packed in fruit boxes. They disposed of the fruit boxes and tore the bubble wrap off. the machines before tossing them into new cardboard boxes.

I'd best call John at some stage and see how he's going with it!

  4. PS. Don't be too surprised if it takes a while to power up. American typewriters can't be plugged into Australian power-supplies without a 'Step-down transformer'. Our 240 volt outlets seem to be a bit much for the American machines.

  5. I didn't know that about the 'step-down transformer'. Nice to know. Glad to hear it arrived safely (as far as we know).

    1. Yeah, and John needed to go on a road trip today, so he wasn't able to dig into the machine so much. Hopefully he'll get back to it soon and let us know how things turned out.
