September 21, 2014 - "Of junk, luminaries and loonies..."

My newly acquired SG-1, lording over my (all too cluttered) desktop.
I love this machine! It makes me feel small.
Not the worst we have, but JUNK. Mark P's "Cookies and Cream" machines beat this by a long shot! Ask him.  :-)

The newest addition to the "permanent" collection that is causing me anxiety. A lovingly used, early L.C. Smith Super Speed, that I will not be able to lay hands on for quite some time. It will be in cold storage in Denver, until I can arrange a trip to/from there.

  1. Oh yeah, Herman's place will blow your mind ... And none of it is junk!

    1. I am really looking forward to the experience! The two older boys are coming with. Hopefully between the three of us, we'll have one operational brain. :-)

But what about you, Richard? Do you have any shameful junk? :-) A Chinese Roy-Type, or something embarrassingly hideous?

  2. Great post Brian. Reading this made me feel less ashamed about the JUNK I've accumulated in just over a year of collecting. Of course, I also have a few gems that I'm proud of, so overall things seem to have balanced out. I would not be able to resist that SG1, definitely NOT junk!

    1. Thanks! Yeah, the SG-1 is definitely not junk. I think that the key salient thought that came out of that rambling was for using these pieces of JUNK to serve as demonstrators of the difference between good machines and bad. It inspired another idea for a 'demotivational' poster, and I'll be posting that shortly. :-)

  3. Herman's is just too much to take in at one time. Not only does he have every conceivable make and model, but every iteration of every make...in every color. Absolutely astounding.

  4. And hey! I just noticed - you found one of those plastic paper guide thingummies! Nice!

    1. Yessir! I found a guy via the Yahoo! typewriter group that had new-old-stock paper supports, and I took the plunge. It was not cheap. :-( But it's a nice touch to the machine. :-)
